Summary
The setting of The Power is a recognisable contemporary world altered by a single, abrupt biological phenomenon. Without warning, adolescent girls across the globe develop an innate ability to generate and discharge electrical energy, enabling them to inflict pain or death at will. This capacity is hereditary, embedded within their physiology, and cannot be removed or suppressed. As they experiment with the sensation and implications of this newfound force, they discover that the ability can be activated in adult women as well. Within a short period, the vast majority of women acquire the same electrical capability.
The emergence of this power precipitates a profound transformation in social, political, and interpersonal dynamics. As women become capable of releasing electrical currents from their fingertips, the established structures of authority and vulnerability are destabilised, ushering in a radically altered global order.
