Summary
Teenagers Motoi (Sawamura) and Fuyuko (Saitō) visit their classmate Reiko (Morita) and witness a boy attempting to break into her home. Motoi pursues him, but the intruder escapes, projecting telepathic pleas insisting that he is not a thief. The following day, the boy appears in Motoi’s classroom as a newly enrolled student, introduced as Kiyoharu (Hasegawa). Soon afterwards, Motoi’s classmates begin to lose their memories, prompting Motoi and Fuyuko to investigate. Although Kiyoharu warns them to stop, they uncover evidence in abandoned diaries suggesting that Reiko has concealed her prior acquaintance with him from another school.
Travelling to the town near Kamakura where Kiyoharu and Reiko once lived, Motoi learns that their strange behaviour began only after visiting a forbidden cave. Fuyuko is subsequently kidnapped by the pair, who demand Motoi’s pendant as ransom. They reveal that they have been possessed by extra-terrestrial beings who escaped the destruction of their home planet and now intend to migrate to Earth. The pendant contains a confidential report on their world, written long ago by Kiyoharu’s father. Motoi ultimately returns the pendant, and the alien boy departs for his own planet , a narrative resolution that closely echoes earlier stories such as “Mysterious New Student” and “Infrared Music”.
