Summary
Commando Cody, portrayed by George Wallace, is depicted as a civilian scientist, inventor, and head of a small research staff. His technological innovations include a streamlined protective helmet, an atomic‑powered rocket backpack integrated into a leather flight jacket, and a rocket‑propelled spacecraft capable of interplanetary travel, including journeys to the Moon. When the United States comes under attack from an unidentified force capable of destroying military installations and industrial centres, Cody deduces, accurately, that the assaults originate from the Moon. Travelling there in his rocket ship, he confronts the Moon’s self‑proclaimed ruler, Retik (Roy Barcroft), who declares his intention to conquer Earth and subsequently relocate the Moon’s population using spacecraft equipped with atomic weaponry. The lunar civilisation’s armaments are powered by lunarium, an element described as superior to uranium.
Across the subsequent eleven serial chapters, Cody returns to Earth and works alongside his associates Joan (Aline Towne), Ted (William Bakewell), and Dick (Gayle Kellogg) to counter the activities of an elusive lunar operative, Krog (Peter Brocco). Krog and his human collaborators, led by Graber (Clayton Moore) and Daly (Bob Stevenson), employ lunarium‑powered ray cannons to undermine defence capabilities and erode public confidence. Following a second expedition to the Moon, during which Cody acquires a ray cannon for laboratory analysis and duplication, he traces Retik’s agents to their terrestrial hideout. Krog is killed by one of his own devices, while Graber and Daly perish during a vehicular pursuit that ends in a fatal plunge from a cliff. Retik subsequently travels to Earth to assume direct command of his failing campaign but is destroyed when struck by one of his own ray weapons.
