Summary
Red Shadow (Sakaguchi) is a member of the Shadow ninja clan and serves under Tokichiro Kinoshita, later known as Hideyoshi. He operates alongside two fellow operatives: Blue Shadow (Kaneko), a specialist in mechanical devices, and White Shadow (Maki), an expert in disguise. The Red Shadow series is divided into four principal story arcs.
The first arc centres on the clan’s efforts to thwart the Order of the Golden Eye, a clandestine organisation led by Yogensai Kaga, who seeks to seize control of Japan. Among Kaga’s followers is Oboro Ikkan, a giant capable of flattening his body to the thickness of paper and floating through the air. He is one of several super‑powered adversaries encountered by the ninja, reflecting the stylised action associated with Phantom Agents.
The second arc introduces the Swastika Party, a Christian sect attempting to obtain three sacred artefacts, the Bells of Zeus, Satan, and Maria, originally brought from Portugal as gifts for Nobunaga. As in The Samurai, the new antagonists are revealed to be an extension of the earlier conspiracy: the Swastika Party is formed by Yogensai Kaga following the failure of his initial plot. In this storyline, Kaga’s ultimate weapon is a missile‑equipped flying saucer.
The third and fourth arcs shift focus to conflicts with rival ninja organisations: the Thirteen Activists of Nerai and the Silent Army of Fuma, each presenting new challenges to the Shadow clan.
