Summary
After regaining consciousness beside the Millennium Bridge in Bankside (UK), Myfanwy Thomas discovers she has no memory of her identity or circumstances and is surrounded by eight deceased individuals. This event propels her into the operations of the Checquy, a clandestine British organisation responsible for managing paranormal phenomena, within which she holds the senior rank of Rook. As she attempts to reconstruct her past, she learns that the organisation is compromised and that her position affords no guarantee of trust or security.
Monica Reed, an Enhanced Variants Agent (EVA) from the Checquy’s American counterpart, the Bureau of Variant Affairs, arrives in London to investigate. Her inquiry reveals that one of the deceased Vultures, individuals known for abducting EVAs, was connected to a missing American operative, Marcus Kevler, thereby linking the incident to broader inter‑agency concerns.
