Summary
The film features Bela Lugosi as a munitions inventor who betrays his country by attempting to supply a disintegrating gas to the militaristic nation of Moravania. In response, federal authorities assign coastguard officer Ralph Byrd, best known for his serial portrayal of Dick Tracy, to prevent Lugosi from smuggling the gas’s component materials out of the United States.
A notable element of the narrative is the presence of Lugosi’s giant deaf‑mute assistant, played by Alexander, who ultimately rebels against his employer after being wounded by him during the climactic sequence. This character provides one of the production’s more distinctive dramatic touches.
