Summary
The series is set within a dystopian future in which individuals from the lower strata of society are offered the prospect of social advancement by enlisting in a specialised deep‑space military unit. The protagonist, Samuel Hyst (portrayed by Casper Van Dien), is employed as a factory worker on the industrial world of Baen 6. Confronted with the news that his wife is expecting a child, and that his accumulated societal debt would be inherited by his offspring, Hyst elects to join the military in the hope of securing a more stable future for his family.
