Summary
Investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith and her thirteen‑year‑old neighbour, Maria Jackson, form an alliance to confront hostile extra-terrestrial forces. Maria is later joined by her friend Clyde Langer and by Sarah Jane’s genetically engineered son, Luke. At the conclusion of the first series, Maria relocates to the United States and is succeeded by Rani Chandra, who moves into Maria’s former house with her parents.
K9, Sarah Jane Smith’s robotic canine companion, makes a brief appearance in the first‑season finale before returning as a principal character in the third season. Production on the fifth season was only partially completed due to the death of Elisabeth Sladen, who portrayed Sarah Jane.
