Summary
John Rand (Wilson) becomes intrigued by a ritual he witnesses in Africa involving the use of monkey glands, a practice believed to promote longevity. On returning to the United States, he begins conducting similar experiments in an effort to explore the phenomenon further. His investigations soon reveal that Baron Velska of Burgonia (Girard) has embarked on a parallel course of research, but with far fewer ethical constraints, employing human subjects as experimental material.
Assisted by Mary Landers (Gerber), a wealthy journalist, Rand works to expose the Baron’s illicit procedures and the dangers posed by his ambitions. Their efforts are complicated by opposition from J. W. Russell (Crampton), a millionaire patron who supports Velska’s work, and from Nadia (Terry), the high priestess presiding over a cult devoted to the virgins of eternal youth. Together, Rand and Landers ultimately bring the Baron’s activities to light, revealing the moral and scientific transgressions underlying his pursuit of prolonged life.
