Summary
The Secret Empire was a hybrid adventure series combining elements of the Western genre with science fiction. Set in late‑nineteenth‑century Wyoming, it follows U.S. Marshal Jim Donner of Cheyenne, who uncovers the existence of an underground civilisation of alien origin residing in a subterranean city known as Chimera. The city is governed by the tyrannical Emperor Thorval, who maintains control over his populace through the Compilation, a mind‑control apparatus powered by gold stolen from the human communities above. Despite Thorval’s authoritarian rule, a clandestine resistance movement has emerged within Chimera, led by Roe and Maya.
Donner becomes involved in assisting the underground movement while simultaneously attempting to halt the gold thefts plaguing the surface. He endeavours to keep his activities concealed from the wider community, confiding only in his trusted friends Millie and Billy, fearing that public disclosure would result in his being dismissed as delusional and institutionalised.
