Summary
Following the completion of war‑game exercises at the Fuji Training Ground, First Lieutenant Akiyoshi Iba and his unit were unexpectedly transported to the Sengoku (Warring States) period by a sudden and anomalous storm. Displaced approximately four centuries into the past, Iba sought to return his personnel to the present era. A conflicting objective soon emerged within the group: First Lieutenant Takuya Shimamura advocated altering historical events in order to reshape the modern world upon their eventual return.
As the platoons attempted to navigate the political and military landscape of the Sengoku period, they were subjected to continuous assaults by samurai forces. Many soldiers were killed in isolated ambushes and surprise attacks, later supplemented by engagements with ninja operatives. The remaining members of the unit were ultimately annihilated during a coordinated surprise attack on Iba’s encampment, carried out by archers and arquebusiers. Shimamura had previously been executed by decapitation.
The sole survivor, Sergeant Fukami Moe, was returned to the present day when a second storm replicated the conditions of the initial temporal displacement. Severely traumatised, she suffered extensive memory loss related to the deaths of her fellow soldiers and the two First Lieutenants, Iba and Shimamura. Upon discovery by police, she was found mute and wandering the streets of Tokyo. In the aftermath, Iba’s family learned of his fate when his daughter located his Japan Ground Self‑Defense Force identification tags at a temple, prompting his wife to mourn his confirmed death.
