Summary
Set within a virtual simulation of Shibuya, Tokyo, the narrative centres on Tsuyoshi, a fifteen‑year‑old boy who seeks to recover his lost memories and escape the artificial city. The simulation is governed by an overseeing entity known as Piece, which enforces strict behavioural constraints on its inhabitants and prohibits them from leaving the environment.
To maintain control, Piece eliminates, within the logic of the simulation any individual who fails to operate according to its prescribed rules. Those who are killed are subsequently reset, reintroduced into Shibuya under a new name and identity, and stripped of all prior memories. This cycle of erasure and reinsertion forms the central obstacle Tsuyoshi must confront as he attempts to understand the nature of the world and his place within it.
