Summary
An American graduate student, Randi Wallace, is conducting research for her master’s thesis on the psychological function of folk legends and myths. Seeking to understand the origins of such stories, she spends a night on the English moors to experience the environment in which many of these tales were conceived. During her stay, she is attacked and bitten by a wild animal. At the next full moon, she discovers to her alarm that the myths she studies may contain elements of truth: she has transformed into a werewolf.
With assistance from her professor, Dr. Ian Matheson, with whom she develops a romantic attachment, Randi attempts to find a cure for her condition. Their search leads them into encounters with vampires, zombies, witches, and even groups of eccentric science‑fiction enthusiasts, placing her academic investigation into myth firmly within the realm of the supernatural.
