Summary

Sky centres on a young, time‑travelling entity from another dimension who is diverted from his intended course by a black hole and consequently becomes stranded on Earth. Although still immature, Sky possesses the ability to influence and command human behaviour. He is soon discovered by three teenagers from the West Country, Arby Vennor, Jane Vennor, and Roy Briggs, who become unwilling participants in his efforts to return to his own dimension through a metaphysical gateway known as the Juganet.

Sky occupies an ambiguous moral position, functioning neither as a conventional hero nor as a villain. His presence on Earth provokes resistance from Goodchild, a menacing figure capable of materialising and dematerialising at will, described as embodying the natural opposition of Earth to anything out of place. Sky’s arrival triggers a profound disturbance within the natural world; in one notable sequence, subterranean tree roots attempt to constrict him as he seeks refuge underground. To survive and restore equilibrium, Sky must locate the Juganet before the opposing forces summoned by his displacement become overwhelming.
