Summary
The Society centres on a group of teenagers who are compelled to establish and govern their own community after the remaining population of their hometown, West Ham, Connecticut, inexplicably disappears. The mystery begins when students from the local high school return early from a cancelled field trip and discover that all other residents have vanished.
A dense forest materialises around the town’s perimeter, isolating it completely; the external world appears to have ceased to exist, and communication via telephone or Internet is no longer possible. Confronted with limited resources and the absence of adult authority, the teenagers must devise their own systems of governance, rules, and social organisation in order to survive.
