Summary
Set in the mid‑21st century, Space Precinct follows New York police lieutenant Patrick Brogan, who is reassigned to Demeter City, a major crime hub located millions of light‑years from Earth. Despite two decades of experience on Earth, Brogan finds himself confronting criminal activity among diverse alien populations.
Demeter City, situated in the Demeter system along a spiral arm of the Milky Way, serves as an allegory for large urban centres. Rejecting the utopian outlook associated with some space‑travel narratives, the series depicts a society facing familiar social problems, intensified by its predominantly alien population. The city, located on the planet Altor, is home to two migrant species: the Creons, noted for ritual and superstition, and the 'Tarns, who possess telepathic and telekinetic abilities.
Brogan works alongside Officer Haldane and Officer Jane Castle, operating from the orbiting Precinct 88 and patrolling in flying police cruisers. His family, wife Sally, daughter Liz, and son Matthew, attempts to adapt to life in an orbital Space Suburb.
