Summary
Set in the year 2104, Space Rangers takes place on Fort Hope, a remote outpost on the frontier planet Avalon. The Rangers serve as law‑enforcement officers tasked with maintaining order across the frontier, echoing the role of their Old West predecessors. Captain John Boon commands a small team that undertakes missions using a compact slingship, with assignments authorised by his immediate superior, Commander Chennault. Oversight of the outpost falls to Colonel Weiss, an Earth Central Command representative known for strict adherence to regulations and frequent clashes with the Rangers’ informal working style.
Boon’s crew includes JoJo, the ship’s pilot; Zylyn, an alien from Graaka possessing exceptional strength and ESP abilities and required to wear a restraining collar; Doc, a cyborg engineer prone to repairing his own malfunctioning components; and Daniel Kincaid, a newly graduated cadet eager to prove himself. Mimmer, the resident scientific expert, remains stationed at Fort Hope rather than joining field missions.
Unlike many futuristic science‑fiction series, the Rangers rely on conventional firearms rather than advanced energy weapons, reflecting the programme’s low‑tech frontier aesthetic.
