Summary
The Winter children , Wallace (Michael Maguire), Winnie (Anne Cooke), and Wilfred (David Barry) , reside with their mother (Maud Long) aboard the orbital facility Earth Satellite One, while their father conducts a survey mission of the Martian moons.
Outside their lessons at the station’s space school, the siblings interact with the personnel who form the community of the colony. Prominent among these figures are Space Commodore Sterling (John Stuart), an accomplished pilot; Captain O’Rorke (Matthew Lane), a headstrong Irish adventurer; and Tubby Thompson (Don McCorkindale), a Cockney navigator. Also present is Sam Scroop (Neil McCallum), described as the trapper of the spaceways and serving as cook aboard the Commodore’s vessel. On the margins of the group is Humphrey Soames (David Drummond), a reporter for the Interplanetary Television Commission.
The series functioned both as entertainment and as an instructional vehicle, introducing viewers to contemporary scientific ideas and prevailing theories of space exploration. Its narrative framed these concepts within a speculative future, presented through a succession of modestly scaled spacefaring adventures.
