Summary
Space Vets was a British children’s series centred on the star-ship Dispensable, a veterinary vessel tasked with providing medical care to animals across the galaxy. Despite its mission, the ship was staffed by an ineffectual crew. Two, the 1,500‑year‑old second officer and veterinarian, was ambitious but unqualified, disliked by colleagues, and perpetually scheming to become captain. Dogsbody, the ship’s canine engineer, kept the vessel barely operational while inventing unreliable gadgets and losing money on racing bets. Mona, initially the communications officer, was the most capable crew member and later trained as a veterinarian.
Each series introduced a new captain, all of whom Two attempted to oust. The first was Captain K. Puddle, a colour‑blind 13‑year‑old; the second another young officer whom Two quickly resented; and the third Captain Skip, a literal‑minded and frequently inattentive commander. Alien creatures treated by the crew, along with Dogsbody, were portrayed using puppets.
