Summary
Paul Reynolds, a fourteen‑year‑old student, is accidentally transported to a parallel dimension ruled by the Spellbinders, an elite class who maintain power through misunderstood technological devices. The general population lives in conditions comparable to the medieval period and remains in poverty under Spellbinder control.
Believed missing after the accident, Paul is sought only by his friend Alex and their schoolmate Katrina. In the Spellbinder world, Paul befriends Riana, a local teenager who initially mistrusts him. Together, they attempt to find a way for Paul to return home.
Paul’s knowledge of science attracts the attention of Ashka, an ambitious Spellbinder who hopes to use him to advance her own power. Her apprentice, Gryvon, eagerly assists her. Paul also gains an ally in Correon, a senior Spellbinder later deposed by Ashka.
Meanwhile, Alex and Katrina uncover the truth about Paul’s disappearance but fail to convince adults of their claims. Paul eventually returns home, inadvertently bringing Riana with him. Lost in the modern world, she reunites with Paul, who attempts to return her to her dimension and prove his story, unwittingly enabling Ashka to enter his world.
