Summary
In the year 2790 A.D., the Earthship Ark drifts uncontrollably through deep space, its crew having died five centuries earlier. At the time of the accident, the airlocks connecting the ship’s domes, each containing the last surviving communities from the destroyed planet Earth, were sealed. Isolated from the rest of the vessel, many of these societies gradually forgot their origins, accepting their enclosed, fifty‑mile‑wide environment and metallic sky as the entirety of their world.
Unaware of their true circumstances, none realise that the Ark is in imminent danger. With no crew to guide it, the vast spacecraft is on a collision course with a star.
