Summary
The narrative is set in 2043, in a world governed by dominant transnational corporations. Socio‑economic divisions have been institutionalised through the construction of an immense physical barrier separating affluent districts from impoverished zones, a measure that has intensified social unrest and contributed to widespread civil instability.
At the centre of the story is Annika Drake, a young woman drawn into a clandestine conspiracy following the unexplained death of her father, Philip Drake. Philip’s former technology enterprise, Psylosense, has been seized by his one‑time business partner, Aslin Kane, whose leadership has steered the company toward ethically contentious innovation. Psylosense is revealed to have developed Vibe, a highly addictive digital narcotic designed to manipulate emotional states and behavioural patterns, thereby providing corporate authorities with an enhanced mechanism for influencing and controlling the population.
