Summary
Stingray is an atomic‑powered submarine equipped with sixteen Sting missiles and engineered for exceptional manoeuvrability, exhibiting a dolphin‑like agility. The vessel is commanded by Troy Tempest, a courageous and charismatic officer in the tradition of Mike Mercury and Steve Zodiac. His regular crew consists of Lieutenant George “Phones” Sheridan, the dependable hydrophones operator, and Marina, the mute, green‑haired daughter of Aphony, emperor of the peaceful undersea realm of Pacifica.
Operational control is exercised from Marineville, headquarters of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASP), under the authority of Commander Sam Shore. A former submarine veteran, Shore is confined to a hover‑chair following injuries sustained in service, yet continues to direct WASP activities with uncompromising resolve.
The principal antagonists are Titan, the despotic ruler of Titanica, and his Aquaphibians, a monstrous aquatic species who prosecute their campaigns using mechanical Terror Fish, submersible craft capable of launching missiles from their gaping jaws. Additional recurring figures include Commander Shore’s daughter Atlanta, Sub‑Lieutenant Fisher, and X‑20, a perpetually unsuccessful Titan agent whose espionage attempts invariably collapse, earning him frequent reprimands from his master.
