Summary
Jessie Mach is a former elite motorcycle police officer who is suspended from active duty after engaging in high‑risk stunt riding that jeopardises his safety. During his suspension, his partner and closest friend is killed, and Mach himself is left for dead by the perpetrators. He subsequently returns to the police force in an administrative role, a position for which he has little enthusiasm.
As part of a covert initiative unknown to his superiors, Mach is approached by Norman Tuttle, the engineer responsible for developing a prototype high‑technology motorcycle. Tuttle offers to surgically repair Mach’s severely injured leg on the condition that he assist in testing the vehicle, designated Street Hawk.
Street Hawk is a highly advanced machine capable of reaching speeds of approximately 300 miles per hour, executing aerial leaps, and deploying a computer‑guided particle‑beam laser weapon. Conceived as a specialised platform for combating criminal activity beyond the capabilities of conventional law‑enforcement equipment, the motorcycle is nevertheless employed throughout the series against adversaries who could largely be apprehended without such extraordinary technology. Throughout Mach’s activities as Street Hawk, his commanding officer, Captain Altobelli, remains unaware that Mach is leading a clandestine dual life.
