Summary
The Elde were once regarded as the most technologically advanced civilization in the Pacific region before their society was destroyed in a cataclysmic event more than 500,000 years ago. Although the disaster eradicated the majority of the population, a small number of survivors established a concealed undersea polity governed by rigorous scientific and logical principles. Among these survivors was Individual No. 8823, pronounced Hayabusa, coincidentally identical to the modern Japanese term for “peregrine falcon.”
During an expedition to the surface, 8823 is discovered and rescued by the schoolboy Isamu and the researcher Dr. Oikawa. In gratitude, 8823 becomes the protector of both Isamu and Dr. Oikawa, the latter having formulated the significant mathematical expression designated X123.
