Summary
Superman is portrayed as the last survivor of Krypton, dispatched to Earth by his parents moments before the planet’s destruction. Discovered and adopted by a rural couple, he is raised as Clark Kent, and during adolescence the Kents recognise the extraordinary abilities he possesses under Earth’s yellow sun. They encourage him to use these powers altruistically, shaping the moral outlook that later defines his heroic identity.
Following the deaths of his foster parents, Clark travels to Metropolis, adopting a mild‑mannered, bespectacled persona and joining the staff of the Daily Planet to remain close to major events. During an assignment involving a newly unearthed mineral named Kryptonite, Clark collapses, leading him to discover that fragments of his destroyed home world are the one substance capable of weakening him.
In moments of crisis, Clark abandons his civilian guise and acts openly as Superman, responding to emergencies with the full extent of his abilities. The first serial centres on his efforts to thwart the schemes of a criminal mastermind known as the Spider Lady, whose activities pose a significant threat to Metropolis.
