Summary
A speculative scientific premise becomes catastrophic reality when an imminent stellar event threatens the destruction of Earth. Nobel Prize‑winning physicist Dr. Austin Shepard vanishes from his post at the Space Propulsion Laboratories, leaving behind anomalous solar data for his colleague, Dr. Christopher Richardson. Laurie Stephenson, an experienced investigative journalist examining unusual solar storm behaviour, grows suspicious when her scheduled interview with Shepard is abruptly cancelled. Concurrently, National Intelligence Special Agent Lisa Delgado fears that Shepard has absconded with classified findings from the Solar Probe programme and may be attempting to sell them.
In fact, Shepard has withdrawn to a remote island refuge, having uncovered a revelation of global consequence: after billions of years as a stable fusion‑driven star, the Sun is on the verge of undergoing a supernova. According to Shepard’s calculations, the detonation will occur within seven days, resulting in the complete annihilation of the Earth.
