Summary
In a world afflicted by a lethal virus that causes death during sleep, no cure has yet been discovered. As a result, individuals can no longer remain alone, since constant vigilance is required to prevent fatal dreaming. At the same time, social order has collapsed: people readily resort to violence over food, weapons, or even minor suspicion.
A small group of survivors has established a modest settlement in an abandoned village. Among them is Kristina, who discovers she is pregnant. Concerned that her child cannot survive under such precarious conditions, she persuades her husband, Andrey, to seek out a reputed community said to possess a treatment for the devastating sleeping sickness. Their journey proves long and hazardous, marked by severe environmental challenges and encounters with armed factions. Along the way, they meet Edik, who may be the biological father of Kristina’s unborn child, further complicating their mission and personal loyalties.
