Summary

Abby Arcane returns to Marais, Louisiana to investigate a lethal, swamp‑borne viral outbreak. During her work, she forms a connection with Alec Holland, a scientist whose reputation has been damaged by controversy surrounding his research. After Holland’s apparent death, Abby begins to uncover the deeper mysteries of the swamp and gradually comes to suspect that Holland may not, in fact, be dead. Her investigation draws her into a broader conflict involving the swamp’s hidden forces and the transformations occurring within it.
