Summary
The Swarm depicts a global ecological crisis in which accelerating environmental degradation precipitates anomalous and increasingly hostile behaviour among marine organisms. These disturbances suggest the presence of an unknown deep‑sea intelligence reacting to humanity’s impact on the oceans.
A dispersed network of scientific investigators works to determine the origin and mechanism of the phenomenon, analysing incidents that include coordinated whale aggression, lethal pathogenic outbreaks, and the emergence of destructive ice‑worm colonies. Their efforts gradually reveal a complex, systemic response from the ocean’s depths, positioning the crisis as both a biological mystery and a confrontation with an unprecedented form of marine agency.
