Summary
Norwegian–Italian academic Roland Marco (Kai Remlov), aged thirty‑two, is a professor of the sociology of communication at the University of Florence. His current research concerns solar symbols, through which he aims to demonstrate that symbolic systems exert measurable influence on human behaviour. These symbols may relate to the Sun itself or to hypothetical suns elsewhere in the universe.
Marco travels to Oslo to attend a research congress, where a sudden death is soon identified as a case of murder. He is asked to contribute his expertise to the investigation. Upon arrival, he is wearing a family heirloom: a signet ring engraved with a sun motif. During the inquiry, Marco works closely with Detective Stenersen (Sverre Berntzen) of the Oslo Police Department. At the congress he also encounters his colleague Torill Bø (Anne Marie Ottersen) and his father, who warns him that the ring may possess dangerous properties and urges him not to display it publicly.
Marco dismisses the warning, but after his father dies under unexplained circumstances, he begins to grasp the gravity of the situation. He discovers that he is being monitored and pursued by a clandestine organisation with an interest in the ring’s symbolism. Seeking further insight into the origins and meaning of the emblem, Marco travels to Trondheim to continue his investigation.
