Summary
Tales of Mystery was a British supernatural drama anthology series broadcast on ITV between 1961 and 1963. Produced by Associated‑Rediffusion, the programme adapted the short stories of Algernon Blackwood, a major figure in early twentieth‑century weird fiction and an acknowledged influence on H.P. Lovecraft. Across three seasons, the series presented twenty‑nine half‑hour episodes, each introduced by actor John Laurie, who appeared in character as Blackwood to frame the narrative. The adaptations emphasised the author’s characteristic blend of atmospheric unease, psychological tension, and encounters with the uncanny. No episodes are known to survive, and the series is regarded as completely lost, making it one of the most significant missing works from early British television drama.
