Summary
Maneejan acquires an antique mirror that unexpectedly functions as a conduit to the past, transporting her more than a century backward to the household of Khun Luang Akarathep Warakorn, a government official of the period. Her sudden arrival causes considerable alarm among the residents, yet her intelligence and adaptability gradually earn their trust. With each subsequent journey, she becomes increasingly integrated into the social and domestic life of the era, and a mutual affection develops between her and Khun Luang.
Her ability to traverse time raises unresolved questions regarding the origin of the mirror’s power and the reason she alone is able to use it. These uncertainties are heightened by the historical circumstances she encounters: Thailand, then known as Siam, is facing significant pressure from Western colonial powers. Possessing knowledge of future events, she contemplates whether her presence might influence political outcomes or contribute to safeguarding the nation, though her capacity to intervene remains limited by the constraints of temporal causality.
As the mirror begins to deteriorate, Maneejan is forced to confront a decisive personal dilemma. She must choose between remaining in the past with the man she has come to love or returning permanently to her own time, preserving her established relationships with family and friends. The breaking of the mirror compels her to weigh emotional attachment against the continuity of her modern life.
