Summary
Four extra-terrestrial beings, Tinky Winky, Po, Laa‑Laa and Dipsy, crash‑land on Earth in their spacecraft, which gradually becomes overgrown with grass and comes to resemble a natural hill. While residing within the vessel, they explore and learn about various aspects of life on Earth, integrating their alien technology with their new environment.
Each episode follows a largely consistent structure. A sun bearing the face of a giggling infant rises over Teletubbyland, signalling the start of the day. The four Teletubbies emerge from their dome‑shaped dwelling when activated by a large windmill, after which they watch a short live‑action film. typically presented twice, on the video screens embedded in their stomachs. They then engage in a dance or a simple game until a voice trumpet announces that it is "time for tubby bye‑bye," bringing the episode to a close.
