Summary
This seven‑part children’s adventure series follows Jim Barnaby, a man who discovers that an attic door in his newly purchased London home serves as a portal to the year 1808, transporting him 150 years into the past. During his initial journey, Barnaby is mistaken for a French spy and narrowly escapes prosecution by returning to his own time, where his account of the experience is met with disbelief. His efforts to obtain proof of his travels lead to further complications, including an accusation of theft.
The narrative reaches its climax when Barnaby re‑enters the past to confront his adversary, despite having read a historical account that records his own death. The series employs time travel as a dramatic device to explore themes of identity, fate, and historical determinism.
