Summary
Timelapse is an Australian science‑fiction drama centred on Douglas Hardy, a contemporary electronics engineer who is murdered, cryogenically preserved, and subsequently revived twelve years later in 1991. In 1979, Hardy uncovers evidence of a political conspiracy orchestrated by Dakin, the leader of the opposition party in New South Wales, who intends to seize governmental control and establish a military dictatorship.
To prevent Hardy from exposing the plot, Dakin orders his associate MacKeil to kill him. Shortly after his death, Hardy’s body is cryogenically frozen, enabling Dr. Fallon and his assistant Miss Parker to revive him in 1991. By this time, Dakin has risen to power and is advancing his authoritarian ambitions, leaving him determined to prevent Hardy from revealing what he knows.
Upon returning to life, Hardy must confront not only the profound social and technological changes that have occurred during his twelve‑year absence, but also ongoing threats to his safety. Complicating matters further, he discovers that his widow, Dell, is preparing to marry MacKeil, the man responsible for his murder.
