Summary
Mikhail Kovalenko (Dmitri Maryanov) is a Moscow‑based journalist specialising in criminal investigations for a commercial television network. Highly skilled in his profession, he is portrayed as charismatic, successful, and socially active, dividing his personal time between close friends, varied interests, and his devoted relationship with his girlfriend. When fellow journalist and environmental advocate Bogdan Sokorov dies under mysterious circumstances, Mikhail undertakes an independent inquiry into the incident.
His investigation soon reveals a plot orchestrated by a deranged criminal intent on assassinating renowned Ukrainian microbiologist Dr. Igor Shokhin (Leonid Kulagin). While researching countermeasures to biological weapons, Shokhin has discovered a method capable of rendering the human body immune to all infectious diseases, making him a target of significant strategic value. To protect the scientist, Mikhail must rely on the specialised training and operational experience he acquired during his service in a military anti‑terrorism unit.
