Summary
The story is set in the near future and follows Florian, a cabinetmaker and father of two, who is involved in an accident during a family sailing trip. After falling overboard and sinking beneath the water, he later awakens to discover that he has spent five years in a coma. Upon regaining consciousness, he finds himself inhabiting the body of Sylvain, a police captain assigned to BATI, a specialised unit responsible for locating individuals known as transferred persons.
These individuals have undergone a medical procedure that relocates their consciousness from one body to another. Initially authorised for therapeutic use, the practice of transfer has since been outlawed due to the emergence of counter‑transfers, a phenomenon in which transferred subjects develop severe psychosis and exhibit violent behaviour.
