Summary
The series centres on Jake, a high‑school student who is recruited into The Troop, a covert global organisation responsible for combating monsters and other supernatural threats. His selection follows a strong performance on an aptitude test, after which a school administrator reveals the existence of the organisation and its need for new adolescent operatives. Additional members of Jake’s local unit include Hayley, the school’s most prominent and socially successful student, and Felix, its resident academic enthusiast.
The Troop’s reliance on teenage recruits is attributed to the adaptability of adolescent minds: they are sufficiently flexible to comprehend the existence of supernatural entities, yet mature enough to accept the responsibilities associated with confronting them. The series depicts a progressive increase in the perceived terror of monsters as individuals age, reinforcing the necessity of youthful operatives. The programme has frequently been characterised as a high‑school‑based analogue to Men in Black, reflecting its blend of adolescent drama and organised paranormal defence.
