Summary
Ultraman Arc is set in a world permanently reshaped by a catastrophic wave of kaiju activity. Sixteen years earlier, simultaneous monster assaults occurred across the planet and were ultimately repelled by the Global Defense Force (GDF). The event, later designated K‑Day, marked a turning point in human history. In Hoshimoto City, the aftermath remains physically visible: a colossal horn‑like structure embedded in the ground, known as the Monohorn, identified as the severed horn of the galactic beast Monogelos. As sporadic kaiju incidents continued, the GDF maintained daily defensive operations while also establishing a specialised civilian‑facing body, the Scientific Kaiju Investigation and Prevention Centre (SKIP). SKIP’s mandate encompasses scientific analysis, public‑safety coordination, evacuation guidance, and ongoing study of the Monohorn and its implications for future kaiju disasters.
Yuma Hize, a survivor of Monogelos’s original attack, lost both parents during K‑Day. Motivated by this trauma, he pursued the study of kaiju biology and retained a strong sense of imaginative optimism despite his past. As a newly appointed investigator, he joined SKIP and was stationed at its Hoshimoto City Branch. When a new kaiju later threatened the city, Yuma attempted to assist civilians but found himself overwhelmed. At that moment, Rution, a being of light he had encountered as a child, reappeared and urged him to unleash his imagination. Through their combined power, Yuma transformed into a new giant of light, Ultraman Arc, and began defending Hoshimoto City from the renewed cycle of kaiju attacks.
