Summary
Set in the year 2000, the series follows the Alchemy Stars, a global collective of prodigious young scientists whose supercomputer, Chrisis, predicts in the late 1990s that Earth will be destroyed by an entity termed the Radical Destruction Bringer. In response, the group quietly establishes the international defence organisation G.U.A.R.D., whose military arm, the eXpanded Interceptive Guards (X.I.G.), operates from the airborne command centre known as the Aerial Base.
Gamu Takayama, a 20‑year‑old Alchemy Stars member, encounters the giant of light Gaia during virtual‑reality research intended to uncover the Earth’s will. Gaia subsequently merges with him, enabling Gamu to combat the monsters emerging in anticipation of the Radical Destruction Bringer. His missions bring him into conflict with Ultraman Agul, whose human host, Hiroya Fujimiya, is a former Alchemy Stars member. Their opposing philosophies regarding Earth’s protection initially place them at odds, but they ultimately reconcile to confront their shared threat.
