Summary
Two emissaries from a flawless yet emotionally barren galactic civilisation, Arkim and Tolrach, are reincarnated into the bodies of two comatose Earth residents, Jean‑Louis and Renate. Their assignment is to determine the fate of six earlier visitors who were dispatched to Earth and subsequently disappeared without explanation. Over the course of a global investigation, they learn that the missing envoys have chosen to remain on Earth, having found their adopted lives preferable to those of their home empire. Now themselves in love, and with Tolrach expecting a child, Arkim and Tolrach decide to abandon their mission and remain on Earth as well.
