Summary
Zack and his father visit Henry Gold’s Magic Shop, where Zack acquires a guide to vaudeville ventriloquism. After practising the techniques described in the book, he learns to project his voice and begins using the skill to amuse himself during class, including disrupting lessons and embarrassing Vernon during a presentation. Before long, Zack’s voice grows noticeably weaker, and he starts to lose it entirely. His disembodied voice then separates from him and begins revealing his private thoughts, including personal secrets about his friends. Zack must recover his voice before it exposes everything he has been thinking about the people around him.
