Summary
Zeeuws Meisje is depicted as residing in the Netherlands in the aftermath of the so‑called Great Traffic Jam, an event in which every automobile in the country became immobilised, permanently blocking all roads and rendering conventional transport impossible. The ecological consequences of this paralysis were severe: the nation’s green pastures disappeared entirely, and gherkins became the only crop capable of growing under the altered conditions. Her principal antagonist is August Horks, an industrial magnate whose commercial empire is built upon the cultivation and sale of gherkins, making him the most influential figure in the Netherlands.
Zeeuws Meisje employs a pair of unusually large earrings, traditional elements of old Zeeland attire, as devices capable of receiving distress signals from individuals requiring assistance. She possesses the ability to fly but lacks superhuman strength; her effectiveness derives instead from exceptional intelligence, which she uses to resolve crises through reasoning and problem‑solving rather than physical force.
