Summary

Larry Martin, a senior officer of the Inter‑Planetary Patrol, detects an unidentified Rocketship approaching Earth and ascends in his jet‑propelled flying suit to investigate. He discovers that the craft carries Martian invaders under the command of Marex. With Mars now orbiting at an excessive distance from the Sun, the planet’s ecology has begun to collapse, prompting the Martians to devise a plan to exchange the orbital positions of Earth and Mars. Their scheme relies on hydrogen‑bomb designs stolen from Earth scientists, which they intend to use to trigger a series of precisely coordinated atomic explosions on both planets, thereby forcing the orbits to shift. Martin learns that the Martians have enlisted Earth collaborators: the renegade Dr. Harding and two criminals, Roth and Shane, who obstruct Martin and his associates, Sue Davis and Bob Wilson.

The Martians establish a concealed base within an underwater‑accessible cavern, where construction of the hydrogen bomb proceeds. To support their operations, they build a remotely controlled robot capable of assisting their human agents in securing materials and funds necessary for the project. Over time, Martin and his colleagues gain the advantage. Marex kills Harding when the latter attempts to surrender, while Roth and Shane perish after Martin turns the robot against them. The Martian force is ultimately destroyed when their Rocketship crashes in flames following a stratospheric ray‑gun battle with Martin in his spacecraft. Narab, Marex’s aide, survives the wreck and reveals the location of the underwater cavern containing the activated bomb. Martin reaches the site moments before detonation and successfully defuses the device.
