== Summary ==

''The Second Hundred Years'' is a sitcom built around a classic ''man out of time'' premise. Its central character, ''Luke Carpenter'', is discovered frozen within an Alaskan glacier, where he became trapped while prospecting for gold in ''1900''. Successfully revived in the present day, Luke is reunited with his son ''Edwin'', now 67 years old, and his grandson ''Ken'', aged 33, both roles portrayed by Monte Markham. The unusual age dynamic, in which Luke appears younger than his own descendants, forms one of the series’ principal comedic foundations.

The programme employs two major narrative premises to generate humour. The first concerns Luke’s efforts to adapt to contemporary society after spending nearly seven decades preserved in ice. The second involves the persistent identity confusion between Luke and Ken, who are close in age and bear a striking physical resemblance. This confusion is heightened by their contrasting personalities: Ken, a conservative and somewhat formal corporate figure, and Luke, an outgoing, adventurous, and markedly more liberal character.
