Summary

Tomi is an advanced android created by Pak Bernard, a robotics specialist. The android was designed to replicate the appearance of Bernard’s late son, Tomi, who had died in an accident that left his surviving daughter, Mimi, in prolonged grief. To ease her sorrow, Bernard developed a highly sophisticated artificial skin and external structure so that the robot would resemble Tomi exactly.

Upon Tomi’s completion, the household maid, Pak Blangkon, was startled and frightened, momentarily believing that Tomi had returned from the dead as a ghost. For this reason, Bernard instructed Mimi to keep Tomi’s true nature as an android strictly confidential, fearing that public knowledge of the robot’s existence would attract global scientific interest and lead to Tomi being used as research material.
