Summary

US pilot Frank Scott and his sons, Karl and David, crash‑land their light aircraft during a tropical storm and find themselves stranded on Dinotopia, a remote, previously undiscovered island where humans and dinosaurs coexist, largely in peace, and where English is the common language.

The Scotts take up residence in Waterfall City, the island’s capital, just as Dinotopia faces growing tension from a faction known as the Outsiders, a group that rejects the island’s laws and communal principles. Yet the Outsiders prove less dangerous than the island’s hostile Saurian species, including Pteranodon, Tyrannosaurus, and Postosuchus, which pose recurring threats to the stability of Dinotopian life.
