Summary

Rose Tyler, a young shop assistant in a London department store, leads an unremarkable and routine life, until the night the shop mannequins where she works suddenly come to life and attempt to kill her. She is rescued by a mysterious stranger who identifies himself only as the Doctor, and her curiosity about him draws her into a frantic struggle to stop an alien intelligence from invading Earth and wiping out humanity.

Rose soon discovers that the Doctor is far stranger than he first appears. He is a Time Lord, an alien adventurer from the lost planet Gallifrey, seemingly the last of his kind. Travelling through time and space in his ship, the TARDIS, he confronts threats wherever he finds them. By joining him, Rose is thrust into extraordinary experiences: witnessing the heat‑death of the Earth five billion years in the future, meeting Charles Dickens in Victorian Britain, and encountering lifeforms and invaders far beyond anything she imagined possible. One thing becomes clear, life with the Doctor will be nothing short of extraordinary.
