Summary

The first season centres on Barry Allen, a crime‑scene investigator who acquires superhuman speed following the catastrophic explosion of the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator. Adopting the costumed identity of the Flash, Barry uses his abilities to combat criminals and other metahumans who gained extraordinary powers as a result of the same accident that transformed him.

As Barry grows into his role as a hero, he uncovers a devastating truth about his mentor, Harrison Wells. Wells is revealed to be Eobard Thawne, the Reverse‑Flash, Barry’s future archenemy who travelled back in time to murder Barry’s mother, Nora Allen, during his childhood. Thawne’s long‑term manipulation of events ultimately unravels when his ancestor, Eddie Thawne, sacrifices himself to prevent Eobard’s existence. Eddie’s death erases the Reverse‑Flash from the timeline, but the paradox triggers the formation of a destructive singularity.
